Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

A heat pump that runs but doesn’t cool usually has one of four issues: restricted airflow, incorrect thermostat settings, low refrigerant, or a duct problem. Dirty filters and blocked outdoor coils cut airflow. Thermostats left in Heat or with too high a setpoint stop cooling. Refrigerant or electrical faults, or leaky ducts, need a pro. Boehmer Heating & Cooling provides 24/7 repair and maintenance for heat pumps, including duct fixes and parts replacement.

Quick checks:

  • Set thermostat to Cool and fan Auto.
  • Replace/clean filters.
  • Clear debris from the outdoor unit.
  • Look for ice on lines; turn off and call if present.
